WOLFF Michel
Michel WOLFF was born in Hollerich. His father Nicolas WOLFF was Eisenbahnbeamte.
In December 1916 WOLFF married Anne (called Henriette) CHARDRON. In the Hollerich Marriage Register WOLFF’s occupation is recorded as Fabrik-Direktor with residence in Luxembourg-city.
In 1917 WOLFF was resident in Köln from where he advertised jobs in his company in Köln in a Luxembourg newspaper:
Fahrzeuge- u. Bereifungsgesellschaft m. b. H
Cöln-Ehrenfeld.
Schlosser, Feuerschmied u. Stellmacher gegen hohen Verdienst gesucht für schwere Bereitungen und Reparaturen, Abt. Lastwagen.
Sich wenden an den Technischen Direktor obiger Firma, Herrn Michel Wolff-Chardron, Römerturm 19, in Cöln am Rhein.
WOLFF’s son Alex, however, was born in 1918 in Luxembourg-city (22 Johann Gasse). The Birth Register explains:
Sohn Alexander Margot Henriette Michel von Henriette CHARDRON, 22 und von ihrem Ehemann Michel WOLFF, Fabrikdirektor, 25, beide hierselbst wohnhaft, der Vater in diesem Augenblick abwesend.
WOLFF was thus living in Köln for a while before returning to Luxembourg. As of 1928, he used Luxembourg-city as his place of residence.
In 1925, however, it appears that his marriage had broken down; his name was not mentioned in the death announcement of his mother-in-law.
Although WOLFF indicated in later years that Luxembourg was his place of residence, it is likely that he lived and worked in Belgium.
It has not been possible to retrieve any additional information on WOLFF’s professional life, nor when and where he died.
A newspaper notice of 1948 suggests that WOLFF was still alive and was still married to Henriette CHARDRON. Both were reported as “sans domicile ni résidence connus“.
