WISER Marcel
André Jules Marcel WISER was the son of Pierre WISER (b.1846) and Joséphine DONDELINGER (b. 1858). Marcel was born in 1889 in Ettelbruck and his father’s occupation was hôtelier.
In the Mémorial of 1875 Pierre WISER was qualified as “marchand et cabaretier”. He later became an entrepreneur. (After his death in 1929 a street was named after him in Ettelbruck.)
Son Jean-Pierre (b. 1883) appears to have taken over the “marchand” part of his father’s business since he founded in 1910 a company for matériaux de construction in Ettelbruck. Two years later he took on Nicolas FRIEDRICH as partner, the company’s object broadening into commerce en gros et en détail de matériaux pour bâtiments ainsi que de toutes branches s’y rattachant directement ou indirectement. In 1919 Jean Pierre WISER became the sole owner of the company.
Marcel WISER was 6 years younger than his brother Jean-Pierre. He temporarily emigrated to North America where he married Barbara BOUQUET in New York in 1913. The latter was a Luxembourg national, born in Ettelbruck in 1889. The couple had a daughter, Josephine, born in 1914 in Canada.
They must have returned to Luxembourg around 1920.
Barbara BOUQUET died in 1922 in Ettelbruck and Marcel married Albertine STEINES in 1926.
After this date Marcel operated as Baumaterialienhändler under the name of WISER-STEINES. He probably took over his brother’s business.
Marcel WISER died in Ettelbruck in 1971.
