WEBER Guillaume
Guillaume WEBER was born in Warken (Ettelbruck) in 1870. His father was a Taglöhner and his mother was a Taglöhnerin.
Guillaume became an engineer and worked for the “De Wendel’sche Berg- und Hüttenwerke” in the north of France (Hayange) where he met and married Marie EDOUIN in 1894.
He became first directeur des mines of the “de Wendel” group in Hayange called “Les Petits-Fils de François de Wendel & Cie” and later he became directeur des usines.
From his British patents of the 1915s we learn that he had taken on French citizenship.
The following dates help to sketch WEBER’s biography:
In 1931 WEBER bought a villa in Mondorf. It would appear that it served as his second residence at the time.
Une villa sise entre le parc et le couvent de la route de Burmerange, connue sous le nom de «Villa Barblé», appartenant à M. Koob, a été vendue de gré à gré à M. Guillaume Weber, directeur des usines de Wendel à Hayange.
In 1934 WEBER’s wife died; he was living at the time in Basse-Yutz.
In 1936 he is reported as being retired and living in Metz, 2 rue de Tivoli.
In 1944, at the end of WWII, WEBER resided in the department of Haute-Marne and in 1948 again in Basse-Yutz.
Finally, in 1949, WEBER resided in Mondorf. He had children but they presumably did not settle in Luxembourg.
It is not known when and where he died.
WEBER was a prolific inventor. The first 20 inventions were made during his employment with the “de Wendel” group. For the later 11 inventions he filed patents in his own name. This sets his retirement to the year 1935.
