SCHAEFER Marc

Marie Louis Marc SCHAEFER was born in Grevenmacher. He was the son of Antoine SCHAEFER (Friedensrichter) and Alice COLLART.
He was educated at the Gymnasium in Luxembourg-city, where he graduated in 1919.
In 1923 he obtained his engineering degree from the “Eidgenössische technische Hochschule” in Zurich (EHT) in the field of Maschinenbau.
He joined ARBED in Dommeldange and, in the mid-1920s, he took on a position in the company “SOGÉCO”:

… la société a pour objet toutes opérations concernant la fabrication, l’achat, la vente, l’échange de toutes matières premières, machines, matériel, installations, et plus généralement de tous produits manufacturés ou non, nécessaires à l’installation, l’approvisionnement ou l’entretien des usines ou de toutes entreprises industrielles.

In 1927 SCHAEFER married Swiss-born Marcelle GAUTHIER.
By 1949 he had advanced to Director of the company “SOGÉCO”.
He then took over the management of the “Société des Minerais”.
In the mid-1950s he resided apparently in Dusseldorf and visited Brazil once every year.
Finally, in 1960, he set up the company IRACO (“Comptoir d’Importations, Représentations et Agences, société anonyme”) …
