KROLL Paul
Paul KROLL was born in 1884 in Hallanzy/Aubange.
His father Adolphe KROLL was an engineer at the local steel plant. His mother Laure Joseph GRAFTIAU, was the daughter of a director of a mine in Liège. The couple married in 1880.
In 1882 father Adolphe was Director of the Société métallurgique de Sclessin-Angleur and in 1884 he moved with his family to Halanzy where he took on the job of Director of the Société métallurgique de Halanzy. In 1888 the KROLL-GRAFTIAU family moved from Halanzy to nearby Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg, where father Adolphe took on his next assignment as Fabrikationschef der Luxemburger Hochöfen-Gesellschaft, locally known as “Brasseurs Schmelz”.
Paul KROLL grew up in Esch-sur-Alzette (8 rue d’Audun) until the year 1900 when father Adolphe KROLL bought a villa in Luxembourg-city situated on the outskirts of the city park on 12 boulevard Joseph II. The family left Esch-sur-Alzette for Luxembourg-city.
After passing his Reifeprüfung in 1901 he entered the Industrie- und Handelsschule in Luxembourg-city where he passed his Fähigkeitsexamen in 1907.
He then studied Hüttenfach at the Technischen Universität Aachen and later in Breslau where he qualified as Ingenieur in 1911.
He probably took up employment at a steel plant in Luxembourg and kept his residence in the family home in Luxembourg-city together with his elder brother Adolphe. Adolphe and Paul were bachelors.
When the family home in Luxembourg was sold in 1931, Adolphe and Paul moved to Grevenmacher. Katharina RONCK, housekeeper of the Kroll family in boulevard Joseph II since 1921, also followed the Kroll brothers in their move.
Paul KROLL died in Ettelbruck in 1969.
