KROLL Guillaume
Guillaume KROLL’s biography, in particular his professional career, has been extensively documented.
He was born in Esch sur Alzette in 1889; his father was an engineer of German origin and his mother was born in Belgium.
In 1900 the family moved to Luxembourg-city and Guillaume obtained his baccalaureate at the Athénée in 1909. He pursued his university studies in Berlin where he obtained a doctorate in 1917.
After WW I he held jobs in Germany and Hungary before establishing in 1924 a private research laboratory in Luxembourg-Belair, where he made his most important invention in 1937, namely a process for producing malleable titanium.
In 1940 he left Luxembourg for the USA where he pursued his research work. He came back to Europe in 1961 and settled in Brussels where he died in 1973. He was not married and had no children.
Guillaume KROLL is buried in Luxembourg-city.
