FABER Max

Wiltz

Maximilian FABER was born in Wiltz in 1875. His father’s occupation was Handelsmann/Gerber. His mother Anna KELLER was of German origin.
In 1895 Max FABER completed his first year of engineering studies in Louvain. Three years later he successfully completed the second year of engineering studies in Brussels (mines, arts et manufactures).
He did not complete his engineering studies and joined his father’s tanning factory (Gerberei) in Wiltz. According to the 1900 Wiltz Census his occupation was Gerber, Angestellter.
In 1910 the family Gerberei was converted in a Société anonyme and Max FABER became its commercial director.
When the Gerberei was closed around 1913 (?) Max FABER set up a Kunststeinfabrik on its premises and registered a company having the following activities:

fabrication d’objets en ciment, moulin à céréales

He placed his first advertisement in 1914.
In 1915 Max married Jeanne Marie FELLER, born in Chicago in 1894, but residing in Wiltz at the time. She was the daughter of Johann Peter FELLER. The latter was born in Weidingen/Wiltz and had two children born in Luxembourg before emigrating to the USA around 1893. He died in Chicago in 1907 and his family probably returned at that time to Wiltz.
Max FABER built a new factory (Kunst-Zementfabrik) in Wiltz which he completed in 1915.
In 1919 sold his business to the company Bossi & Brauch.
He became an industriel/négociant engaging in multiple commercial activities. He also played an important role in local politics.
Max FABER died in 1952 in Wiltz. His wife Jeanne Marie FELLER died there in 1973.
