BERNARD Charles
Carl (Charles) Paul Franz BERNARD was born in 1864 in Luxembourg-city (6 Gross-Gasse).
His father Carl Franz BERNARD was a Kauffmann (son of a commis de la poste aux lettres in Luxembourg-city) and his mother Maria GASBAR was the daughter of a Weingärtner in Remich. Charles was the eldest of 6 children.
In 1898 he married Maria Julia BERNHÖFT, born in Trier. She was the sister of Carl BERNHÖFT, a pioneer photographer, and inventor, who introduced flash photography in Luxembourg-city.
In 1919 Charles BERNARD founded a commercial firm which, over the years, pursued the following activities:
1920 vente de tabacs, cigares etc., Luxembourg (28 avenue Adolphe, later 63 avenue de la Liberté )
1926 “Métallux”, commerce de sacs, caoutchouc, peaux et métaux
1927 fabrication de tabacs (17 rue Neyperg), closure of vente de tabacs, cigares, etc.
1929 closure of fabrication de tabacs
1935 “Bourse du Mobilier, Credit-Möbel Centrale”, exploitation d’une salle de vente et commerce de meubles, ameublement (17 rue Neyperg,), later moved to coin place Guillaume/rue de la Reine
BERNARD died in 1939 in Luxembourg-city.
