BECKER Albert
Wilhelm Albert BECKER was born in 1870 in Luxembourg-city (3 Chimaystrasse). His father Carl August BECKER was a Buchhalter.
Albert BECKER graduated from the Athénée in 1888 and continued his studies at the university of Louvain where he qualified as engineer in 1892.
BECKER spent most of his professional career outside of Luxembourg.
According to his patents, he resided in 1902 in Lipetzk (Russia) and in 1909 in Grosnyi (Russia).
When he came back to Luxembourg from Grosnyi in 1919 for a few months’ break, he applied for his third patent, which was granted in France on 16 January 1920 and in the UK on 4 March 1920.
BECKER died soon after, in September 1920, in Grosnyi:
Il y a une dizaine de jours, nous avons appris la mort de notre compatriote Albert Becker, ingénieur, directeur-général de la société Achwerdorff des Pétroles de Grosnyi (société anversoise). Nous espérions que cette triste nouvelle serait démentie, mais le consulat français de Tiflis vient de confirmer la mort de Becker. Albert Becker, qui en 1919 était revenu dans son pays natal pour y passer quelques mois, retourna a son poste de Grosnyi (Caucase du Nord) déjà aux mains des bolcheviki russes. Sa demeure fut pillée, et lui, déjà malade, jeté en prison pour y mourir de faim. Sa dépouille mortelle a été jetée dans la fosse commune. Sa mort remonte au 24 septembre 1920 …
