Adolph MAYER was born in 1866 in Kleinbockenheim, Frankenthal, Bavaria (DE).
He came to Luxembourg in 1897, geschäfsthalber. He was a Kaufmann residing in Luxembourg-city (16 König-Ring). His wife Jenny REIS was born in1880 in Mannheim (DE).
The couple had a son named François Jacques, born in Luxembourg-city in 1901.
Adolphe MAYER was dealing in textiles, mainly cotton.
In 1916 he registered his first company in Luxembourg under the name of MAYER-REIS (Kurz-, Weiss- und Wollwaren) situated in 16 Neutorstrasse.
In 1925 he transformed the company into a société en commandite simple:

La société a pour objet la fabrication et la vente des articles de bonneterie, lingerie et autres similaires.

In 1927 the company was restructured and continued under the name of:
MARELUX, société anonyme.

La société a pour objet la fabrication, l’achat et la vente des articles de bonneterie et produits similaires ainsi que toutes opérations mobilières et immobilières qui rentrent dans l’objet ainsi défini ou qui est en facilitent la réalisation.

The shareholders were the couple MAYER-REIS and their son François MAYER and his wife Ida LIEBEN. Adolphe’s wife, Jenny REIS, died in 1938 in Luxembourg-city. She is buried in the cemetery of Luxembourg-Fetschenhof.
The MAYER-LIEBEN couple, together with the widowed Adolph MAYER, being of Jewish confession, probably emigrated to the USA around 1940, where François took up a job in the “Pennshire Shirt Company” in New York.
Adolphe MAYER died in New York in 1942 and is buried there.
