SCHWEISTHAL François
François SCHWEISTAHL was born in Echternach in 1822. Both his parents were of German origin, father Mathias having been born in Bitburg and mother Maria Magdalena ZWERGER in Trier.
The SCHWEISTHAL family, as of 1824, owned 1/10 of the interest in the Bitburg brewery, founded some 10 years earlier.
Father Mathias’ occupation in Echternach was Strumpfweber and, around 1825, the family moved to Ettelbruck where Mathias became a Wirt and later set up a brewery.
In 1847 son François SCHWEISTHAL became a brewer and he bought the “Gruber” brewery in Wiltz. In 1855, however, he sold it.
François married Lucie KRIES, born in Bitburg, in 1857, and the couple settled in Bettborn, where François joined his eldest brother Joseph who had been running a brewery in Bettborn since 1843.
François SCHWEISTHAL died in Bettborn in 1899.
